The University of Sioux Falls women’s basketball team triumphed over Augustana University, winning 83-73 in a thrilling encounter on March 2, 2024. The match, held at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, showcased an impressive performance by the Cougars, particularly in the fourth quarter, where they pulled ahead decisively.

After three quarters of competitive play, the game remained tightly contested. Both teams exchanged leads, with neither side able to establish a significant advantage. The Cougars entered the final quarter with a narrow margin, but their relentless drive and determination shifted the momentum in their favor.

In the fourth quarter, the Cougars capitalized on critical turnovers by the Vikings and executed their plays with precision. The team demonstrated remarkable resilience and teamwork, scoring 25 points in the final ten minutes while limiting Augustana to just 12. This strategic shift not only secured the victory but also allowed the Cougars to finish the regular season on a high note.

Kailey McKenzie led the Cougars with an outstanding performance, contributing 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Her ability to control the game in crucial moments proved instrumental in the team’s success. Emily Johnson also made a significant impact, adding 18 points and providing essential support in both offense and defense.

The victory marks an important milestone for the Cougars, as they prepare for the upcoming postseason. Coach Travis Traphagen expressed pride in his team’s ability to rally when it mattered most. “Our players showed great heart and determination today,” he stated. “Finishing the regular season with this win against a rival adds to our momentum as we head into the playoffs.”

Augustana, while disappointed with the outcome, showcased their talent and resilience throughout the game. Sarah Larson led her team with 20 points, demonstrating strong offensive skills. The Vikings fought hard but ultimately could not match the Cougars’ intensity in the final stretch.
