BREAKING: The 2027 MLB All-Star Game is officially set to return to Wrigley Field after a 37-year hiatus, and excitement is surging among Chicago Cubs fans. Officially announced on August 1, 2025, during a ceremony led by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, this marks the fourth time the Midsummer Classic will take place at the iconic venue.
Although the event is still two years away, fans attending Tuesday’s Cubs game expressed their eagerness for the chance to see the sport’s brightest stars in action. “I’ve been to the World Series, I’ve been to playoff games here. Never been to an All-Star Game,” said Sean Healy, a lifelong Cubs fan from Los Angeles.
This upcoming game will be the eighth time Chicago hosts the All-Star festivities, with the last occurring on July 15, 2003, at U.S. Cellular Field. The historical significance is palpable as Wrigley last welcomed the All-Stars in 1990.
“It’s probably going to be really hard to get tickets,” added Debra Brooks, echoing the sentiments of many fans. Anticipation around ticket availability is already building, especially considering the 2025 All-Star Game at Truist Park in Atlanta sold out rapidly, with prices ranging from $220 for standing room to over $2,500 for premium seats.
Wrigley Field, with a capacity of 41,649, is expected to follow suit, with ticket prices reflecting the high demand and prestige of the event. Healy, who previously paid $3,000 for a World Series game, stated, “I don’t really have ticket shock.”
The announcement comes amid significant improvements to Wrigley Field, including a planned $32.1 million investment in security enhancements. Manfred confirmed these developments were crucial in securing the All-Star Game for the historic ballpark.
“It really is important for us and it was important for securing the game,” said Manfred during the announcement.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker joined the celebration, emphasizing Chicago’s welcoming spirit: “To all the baseball fans out there, we can’t wait to welcome you to the great city of Chicago.” The city is no stranger to hosting major events, and local fans are confident that the community can manage the influx of visitors.
Healy remarked, “There’s so much that you can do in the neighborhood. For people who have never been here before, it’ll be very special, especially with all the events that they plan.”
As the countdown to the 2027 All-Star Game begins, fans are already buzzing about potential player appearances, including Pete Crow-Armstrong and other rising Cubs stars. The atmosphere in Chicago is electric, and the anticipation is building as the city prepares to host this monumental event.
Stay tuned for updates as ticket details and further event information are expected to emerge in the coming months. For now, Cubs fans can revel in the excitement of this long-awaited return to Wrigley Field.
