UPDATE: Charges are expected to be filed today against 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, the suspect in the shocking double murder of Robin Kaye, a music supervisor for American Idol, and her husband, Thomas Deluca, both aged 70. The incident occurred last Thursday at their home in Encino, Los Angeles, and investigators are piecing together the harrowing details of the crime.
Authorities report that Kaye and Deluca returned home to find Boodarian still inside. Surveillance footage reveals the suspect entered through an unlocked sliding glass door after jumping a fence, leading to a violent confrontation that left both victims with multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, they succumbed to their injuries shortly after the attack.
According to LAPD Lt. Guy Golan, “There was a confrontation that ensued which resulted in the victims receiving multiple gunshot wounds.” Boodarian, previously charged with battery and exhibiting a deadly weapon, had those charges dismissed after being deemed mentally incompetent just months prior to this incident.
Investigators found a handgun at Boodarian’s residence, which they believe may be the murder weapon, although they are awaiting forensic analysis for confirmation. Lt. Golan highlighted the critical role of surveillance cameras in tracking down Boodarian, stating, “A lot of times surveillance video is our best tool to identify who committed the crime.”
In a concerning twist, the LAPD received two calls last week about a man jumping fences in the neighborhood. Officers responded but left without further investigation when no one answered at the Kaye and Deluca residence, which is described as highly fortified with an 8-foot wall and numerous cameras. However, the couple fell victim to a breach through an unsecured door.
As the investigation unfolds, LAPD Capt. Mike Bland urged homeowners to take security seriously. “If you’re looking at preventing burglaries, it starts with locking and securing all windows first and doors,” he advised. Capt. Bland also suggested enhancing home security with lights and dogs, stating, “Their barking can often convince a burglar to look elsewhere.”
The emotional impact of this crime resonates deeply within the community, as Kaye was a beloved figure in the music industry. The pending charges against Boodarian add another layer of urgency to this developing story, which has garnered significant media attention.
As the LAPD continues its investigation, the public is encouraged to remain vigilant. Stay tuned for further updates as this story evolves.
