Cameron Boozer Scores 35 Points, Ties Duke Freshman Record

UPDATE: Freshman sensation Cameron Boozer has set the Duke basketball world ablaze with a stunning performance, scoring 35 points in just his fourth game. This explosive display occurred during Duke’s dominant 100-62 victory over Indiana State on November 10, 2023, marking him as one of the elite players in the program’s history.

Boozer’s impressive total ties him for the second-most points scored by a Duke freshman in a single game, just behind Cooper Flagg, who netted 42 points against Notre Dame last season. Duke coach Jon Scheyer praised Boozer’s competitive spirit, stating, “Just his approach… he’s such a competitor.”

In addition to his scoring feat, Boozer also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and dished out 5 assists, showcasing his all-around game. His shooting was remarkably efficient, hitting 13 of 16 shots from the field, including both of his attempts from beyond the arc. Although he struggled slightly at the free-throw line, going 7-for-11, Scheyer noted, “I don’t know how you could be more efficient.”

Boozer shares the spotlight with basketball legends Zion Williamson (2018-19) and Jared McCain (2023-24), both of whom also achieved the 35-point milestone as freshmen. Remarkably, his output surpasses that of other Duke stars like Marvin Bagley III and JJ Redick in their freshman seasons.

Reflecting on his performance, Boozer emphasized the importance of focusing on foundational skills. “When I’m focusing on the right things like defense, rebounding, pressuring the ball, the other things naturally happen,” he explained. His teammate Caleb Foster added, “He gets it down in the paint, he’s going to attack the rim; it’s hard to stop him.”

As Boozer continues to shine, he is averaging 22.5 points per game heading into Duke’s next big challenge against No. 25 Kansas on Tuesday night. Scheyer believes there is even more potential in Boozer’s game, saying, “I actually want him to be more aggressive with his scoring.”

This remarkable performance is not just a personal achievement for Boozer; it resonates deeply within the Duke community and beyond. His rapid ascent into the record books has fans buzzing and raises expectations for the remainder of the season. As the Blue Devils prepare for their matchup against Kansas, all eyes will be on Boozer to see if he can continue his scoring surge and propel Duke to victory.

Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting season unfolds!
