BYU Star Kennard Davis Jr. Cited for DUI, Marijuana Possession

BREAKING: BYU basketball star Kennard Davis Jr. has been cited for driving under the influence (DUI) and marijuana possession following a serious car crash in Provo, Utah, according to a police report obtained by ESPN. The incident occurred on Friday, October 27, 2023, and it has sent shockwaves through the BYU community as details continue to emerge.

The police report reveals that officers performed “standard field sobriety tests” at the scene, which led to Davis’s arrest. He was treated for minor injuries after the accident, and his vehicle was impounded. An officer noted that they “began to suspect impairment from one of the drivers” during the traffic incident, confirming the gravity of the situation.

BYU’s head coach Kevin Young announced that Davis was held out of the team’s recent loss to UConn on Saturday due to a violation of team rules. Young stated that Davis is suspended indefinitely as the university continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrest. The school has not provided further updates regarding Davis’s future with the program.

Davis, who has averaged 9.0 points per game and achieved a remarkable 50 percent success rate on 3-point attempts, was notably absent from the game against UConn, where his team suffered a narrow 86-84 defeat after trailing by as much as 20 points. His absence raises questions about the impact on the team as they navigate this challenging season.

The BYU honor code, which mandates students to abstain from substances including alcohol and drugs, could have significant implications for Davis. Violating these rules can lead to severe penalties, including possible dismissal from the university. As the flagship school of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU’s policies are strict, and the repercussions of this incident could be far-reaching for Davis.

As the investigation unfolds, Provo police have stated that no bodycam footage will be released due to concerns over compromising the ongoing inquiry. The situation remains fluid, and updates are expected as the university and law enforcement agencies continue to assess the implications of Davis’s actions.

Fans and supporters are left wondering how this incident will affect Davis’s career and the BYU basketball program moving forward. The urgency of this news highlights the need for immediate attention to the unfolding developments surrounding this high-profile athlete.

Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
