Bulls’ Coby White Out for Season Opener, Injured Calf Delays Return

BREAKING: Chicago Bulls guard Coby White will be sidelined for at least two more weeks, missing the highly anticipated season opener against the Detroit Pistons on October 25, 2023. The team officially announced this urgent update Monday as White continues to recover from a right calf strain sustained during an offseason workout in August.

White has not participated in any preseason games due to this injury, but he took a positive step forward by practicing for the first time this past Saturday. Despite this progress, he indicated to reporters that he still needs to improve his conditioning before returning to full game action.

The Bulls had initially hoped White would be ready by the start of the season, but the latest developments have forced a reassessment. As he ramps up his on-court activities, the 25-year-old remains a crucial player for the Bulls, having averaged a career-high 20.4 points and 4.5 assists on 45% shooting last season. His absence leaves a significant gap in the team’s offensive lineup.

White is also entering the final year of a $36 million contract, which adds another layer of urgency to his recovery. If he continues to miss games, he risks impacting his future free agency status as an unrestricted free agent next summer.

In the meantime, the Bulls are adjusting their strategy. Tre Jones and Ayo Dosunmu will fill the backcourt positions during his absence, gaining valuable experience as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

Fans and analysts alike are closely monitoring this situation, as White’s return will be pivotal for the Bulls’ performance this season. The team is expected to provide updates on his recovery process as the regular season unfolds.

Stay tuned for further developments regarding Coby White’s injury and the Bulls’ season launch.
