BREAKING: A Brooklyn man has been convicted of sex trafficking a woman on Long Island, according to an urgent announcement from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Michael Howell, aged 65, was found guilty on September 26 on multiple charges, including two counts of sex trafficking, promoting prostitution, and drug possession.
The conviction follows a harrowing ordeal for the unnamed victim, who Howell forced into sex acts for money across Suffolk County between April 2023 and February 2024, the month of his arrest. Authorities report that Howell utilized threats of violence and illegal substances to manipulate and control the victim.
District Attorney Ray Tierney stated, “Michael Howell preyed upon his victim by using crack, heroin, and violence to maintain control over her in order to profit from her exploitation.” He emphasized the particularly cruel method of employing addictive drugs to keep trafficking victims compliant.
Howell reportedly advertised the victim on various websites as a prostitute, all while feeding her crack cocaine and heroin. In a shocking revelation, authorities noted an incident where Howell violently assaulted the woman by slamming her head into a wall when she attempted to escape.
Howell now faces a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison, with his sentencing hearing confirmed for September 26. Additionally, as a native of Barbados, federal authorities plan to initiate deportation procedures upon completion of his sentence.
This urgent case highlights the ongoing battle against human trafficking, a crime that affects countless victims. As the legal process unfolds, the community remains vigilant, advocating for justice and support for those impacted by such heinous acts.
