BREAKING: A 31-year-old ex-convict was brutally stabbed to death outside a liquor store in the Bronx late Monday night, igniting fresh grief for a family already shattered by gun violence. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on August 18, 2023, at a liquor store located on Third Ave. near E. 165th St.
Witnesses report that Katrell Dixon got into an argument outside the store, which escalated quickly, culminating in the fatal stabbing. According to local authorities, the assailant used a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds to Dixon’s chest.
Sharon Dixon, Katrell’s mother, expressed her devastation, stating, “It’s a mother’s worst nightmare. I lost my first son to gun violence, and now I’ve lost my second.” Katrell had only been released from prison on July 12, 2023, after serving six years for attempted murder related to a shooting in Queens.
“He was turning his life around,” said Katrell’s surviving brother, Darnell Dixon, age 40. “He was on the right track. He was a good brother, father, and son.” Tragically, Katrell’s life took a downward turn after the murder of his older brother, Cory Dixon, who was killed in a separate violent incident over a decade ago.
Katrell’s family reports that the death of Cory, who was shot in October 2013, deeply impacted Katrell. “When Cory died, Katrell’s life changed completely,” Darnell shared. Cory, known as a protector and rock of the family, left behind three daughters.
The Bronx community is reeling from the violence, with many expressing anger and sorrow. One nearby restaurant owner, Basilio Bellow, described finding Katrell lying on the ground, bleeding and unconscious. “He was stabbed, bleeding from the chest,” Bellow recalled.
Emergency services rushed Katrell to Lincoln Hospital, but medical personnel were unable to save him. As of now, the killer remains at large, with police continuing their investigation. The assailant was last seen fleeing the scene with a woman, and authorities have yet to determine a motive for the attack.
Cops have linked Katrell to the Billy Bad A– gang, a subset of the Nine Trey Gangsters. While his gang affiliation has been noted, it is unclear if the stabbing was gang-related. Katrell had a history of arrests, with a record of over 21 arrests, many of which have been sealed.
The Bronx community is calling for justice as the family mourns yet another tragic loss. Darnell Dixon stated, “It affected all of our lives — and now it’s happened again.”
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information regarding the suspect. Community members are urged to come forward with tips that could lead to an arrest. As the investigation unfolds, residents hope for an end to the cycle of violence that has plagued their neighborhood.
