URGENT UPDATE: The Boy Scouts are set to provide an essential curbside Christmas tree pickup in Jackson, MI, on Saturday, January 10, 2024, starting at 8 a.m.. This annual service is available by reservation only for residents within the city.
Residents are reminded to place their trees at the curb the night before pickup to ensure collection. To schedule a pickup, contact the troop at 517-740-0570. Notably, Troop 424 of the American Legion John F. Smith Post No. 29 will not conduct a general tree pickup this year, according to Tina Reese, the event coordinator.
Last winter, the dedicated Scouts collected 230 trees, reported Tom McKown, troop committee chair, in an email. The troop, which has been serving the community since the late 1970s, takes the discarded trees to a local farm where goats enjoy them as food.
The annual event not only helps with tree disposal but also fosters community spirit. “We appreciate hearing from people about how much they enjoy seeing our Scouts out doing a community service event. The Scouts also enjoy being out in the snow,” McKown shared.
Residents looking to support the troop can send donations to Troop 424 at 914 Helena Ave., Jackson, MI 49203. This curbside service presents a convenient way for residents to dispose of their Christmas trees while supporting a local organization that builds leadership and community values among its youth.
Act quickly to secure your reservation and be part of this time-honored community tradition!
