URGENT UPDATE: Comedian Bill Burr is reportedly in talks to join the star-studded cast of ‘The Social Network Part II’, directed by Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin. This development comes as Sorkin finalizes casting for the highly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed 2010 film, which will delve into the controversial impacts of Facebook, now known as Meta.
The new film is inspired by a series of investigative articles titled “The Facebook Files” by Jeff Horwitz published in The Wall Street Journal. It will examine the company’s internal knowledge of the detrimental effects its platform has on children and teens, and its role in the spread of misinformation and the violent insurrection of January 6, 2021.
Burr joins a lineup that includes Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison, and Jeremy Strong, who are reportedly finalizing their contracts. White is set to portray journalist Horwitz, Madison will take on the role of whistleblower Frances Haugen, and Strong is expected to depict CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In contrast, Burr’s character is said to be fictional or a composite, heightening anticipation around his role.
Production for the film is scheduled to begin later this year in Vancouver. The project is being produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Sorkin himself, alongside Stuart Besser.
Burr’s recent achievements include directing and starring in the hit comedy Old Dads, which garnered 29.6 million views on Netflix within its first 10 days, making it the most-watched film on the platform during that period. Additionally, he received critical acclaim for his Broadway performance in Glengarry Glen Ross alongside Kieran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk.
As Burr gears up for this exciting new role, he is also set to direct his next project, Born Losers, which he co-wrote and will also star in. His impressive credentials, including multiple Emmy and Grammy nominations, continue to solidify his status in the entertainment industry.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as casting progresses and production kicks off. The exploration of social media’s impact on society is more relevant than ever, making ‘The Social Network Part II’ a must-watch for audiences worldwide.
