Amy Madigan Earns Golden Globe Nod, Talks Aunt Gladys Prequel

UPDATE: Amy Madigan has received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the film Weapons, marking her first nomination in 36 years. This exciting news comes just days after she won the New York Film Critics Circle award for best supporting actress, propelling her back into the spotlight.

Madigan’s nomination has sparked renewed interest in a long-anticipated prequel centered on her beloved character, Aunt Gladys. Writer-director Zach Cregger has hinted at a possible project, but Madigan remains cautiously optimistic. “Zach has a map of what he would like to do. But as we know about this business — until it’s real, it’s not real,” she stated during an interview.

The actress expressed her excitement about revisiting the character. “It would be such a blast. I’m excited about that possibility,” Madigan added. Cregger recently mentioned that the idea of Madigan reprising her role made him “smile,” but Madigan is realistic about the complexities of the film industry. “We’ll see if people agree with that,” she joked.

The backdrop of the impending sale of Warner Bros. to Netflix adds to the uncertainty surrounding the prequel’s future. “So much business is involved in that, which I’m not involved in, so we’ll all just have to wait and see,” she said.

Madigan, who last attended the Golden Globes as a nominee in 1990 for her performance in Roe vs. Wade, is still adjusting to the renewed attention. “More social media is involved and all that kind of stuff,” she explained, noting the increased demands on her time. “It’s gotten a little more comfortable, but it is just a lot, and I’m not used to that.”

The support from fellow actors has been a highlight of this awards season. Madigan expressed gratitude for actress Sarah Paulson, who reached out to her immediately to help. “That’s been the most gratifying,” she said, acknowledging the challenges of navigating the awards landscape.

As for the most surreal moment this awards season? Madigan quipped, “Getting up this early,” highlighting the whirlwind nature of her current experience.

With the Golden Globe Awards approaching, fans are eagerly watching to see what comes next for Madigan and the potential Aunt Gladys prequel. The excitement is palpable, and the stakes have never been higher. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story!
