URGENT UPDATE: Aldi is set to launch seven new grocery locations across the United States on December 4, with an additional 20 stores opening just one week later on December 11. This rapid expansion includes states like Florida, Minnesota, Virginia, and New Jersey, signaling the retailer’s aggressive growth strategy as it aims to break records this year.
The grocery giant is on track to open over 225 new stores by the end of 2023, a milestone that would mark the largest single-year expansion in the company’s history in the U.S. With an eye toward the future, Aldi also plans to establish 800 new stores by 2028.
On December 4, three locations will debut in Florida, two in Minnesota, one in New Jersey, and one in Virginia. These openings are part of a broader strategy that will see Aldi converting 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets by 2027, after acquiring these locations last year. The plan is designed to enhance Aldi’s footprint while providing shoppers with more accessible options.
Earlier this month, Aldi opened a new store in Gulfport, Mississippi, as part of this ongoing transformation. In Florida, construction is already underway for additional conversions, including projects in St. Johns County and the Ormond Beach area, where the company is expected to adapt these spaces to fit its standard store format.
According to official reports, Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys, will continue to operate these locations until they are officially closed for conversion. Aldi’s growth strategy comes as the company seeks to meet increasing consumer demand for affordable grocery options.
The imminent openings are expected to create a significant number of jobs and improve access to affordable groceries for many communities. As Aldi continues to expand, it is clear that the grocery landscape is changing, with the retailer positioning itself as a formidable competitor to established players like Kroger.
Stay tuned for further updates on Aldi’s expansion plans and upcoming store openings, as the grocery giant reshapes shopping experiences across the nation.
