A significant political coalition named Freedom First Alabama was officially launched today, uniting some of the state’s most influential industry and advocacy groups. This coalition aims to actively counteract policies perceived to increase costs for families and businesses across Alabama. The coalition’s formation comes in response to a wave of proposals from activist organizations throughout the United States advocating for higher taxes, stricter regulations, and government mandates.
During the announcement, Tim Howe, Chief Advocacy Officer of the Business Council of Alabama, emphasized the coalition’s commitment to opposing initiatives that threaten economic stability. “Alabama will not follow the failed path of states that have taxed, regulated, and mandated their way into higher costs and fewer jobs,” Howe stated. He highlighted the coalition’s mission to protect workers and businesses in Alabama while promoting the state’s economic competitiveness.
The coalition comprises a diverse array of organizations, including the Alabama Farmers Federation, Alabama Policy Institute, Alabama REALTORS, and the Alabama Mining Association, among others. These groups share a common goal of advocating for policies that prioritize economic growth and reduce government interference.
In support of this initiative, Jimmy Parnell, President of the Alabama Farmers Federation, noted the federation’s longstanding advocacy for limited government and economic opportunity. “The Federation has been one of Alabama’s most vocal and effective advocates for lower taxes, limited government, and economic opportunity,” Parnell remarked. He expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with business partners to ensure Alabama continues to thrive.
The coalition aims to address several key issues, including resisting government mandates, rolling back excessive regulations, and opposing government overreach. It also seeks to promote free enterprise and attract industrial recruitment within the state.
“Every new mandate means higher prices. Every new regulation means fewer jobs. Every new tax means less opportunity,” said Stephanie Smith of the Alabama Policy Institute. She underscored the urgency of the coalition’s formation in light of external activist groups promoting policies that could elevate costs and impede job creation in Alabama.
Freedom First Alabama explicitly warns that many of these policies are being introduced in Montgomery by outside organizations that may not prioritize the best interests of Alabama’s communities. The coalition is determined to counteract these trends and maintain Alabama’s status as a leader in economic growth and practical governance.
The launch of Freedom First Alabama marks a notable moment in the state’s political landscape, reflecting a concerted effort among influential groups to advocate for policies that support economic prosperity. As the coalition embarks on its mission, it aims to engage with lawmakers, stakeholders, and the public to foster a more favorable policy environment for businesses and families alike.
