Wing Aviation LLC and Walmart Stores Inc. have announced plans to expand their drone delivery service to an additional 150 Walmart locations across the United States within the next year. This expansion will provide access to drone deliveries for more than 40 million Americans, furthering the companies’ goal of establishing a network of over 270 delivery sites by 2027, spanning from Los Angeles to Miami.
The new service will initially launch in major urban areas, including Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with further locations to be confirmed later. According to Wing, the average flight time from stores to customer homes is approximately 3 minutes and 43 seconds, enhancing convenience for consumers.
Greg Cathey, senior vice president of digital fulfillment transformation at Walmart, emphasized the importance of drone delivery in meeting customer demands. “Drone delivery plays an important role in our ability to deliver what customers want, exactly when they want it,” he stated. Cathey noted that the service addresses last-minute needs, whether it involves a missing ingredient for dinner or a late-night necessity for busy families.
Wing plans to build on the success of its existing operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and Metro Atlanta. The company has conducted deliveries in Dallas since December 2024 and in Atlanta since December 2025. Wing reported significant traction in these areas, with the top 25% of customers placing orders an average of three times a week. The company has seen delivery numbers triple in the latter half of 2025 compared to the first half.
In addition to expanding into new cities, Wing is actively updating its existing delivery areas. Last year, the company announced plans to launch drone services in cities such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. Currently, only Atlanta has gone live, although plans to launch in Houston are set for January 15, 2026.
“We’ve spent years building our technology to ensure that when you realize you’re out of eggs or need over-the-counter medicine, the solution is just a few taps away,” said Adam Woodworth, CEO of Wing. He expressed confidence in the service’s ability to provide rapid delivery for everyday items, stating, “We believe even the smallest package deserves the speed and reliability of a great delivery service.”
Walmart’s collaboration with Wing highlights the effectiveness of drone technology in meeting essential consumer needs. Woodworth noted the importance of delivering critical items quickly, saying, “Working with Walmart has allowed us to prove that delivering these critical, everyday items in minutes makes a significant difference for families.”
Wing operates a fleet of lightweight drones designed to transport small packages directly from stores to homes within minutes. The company has been active in the U.S. for five years and has completed over 400,000 commercial deliveries globally. Wing adheres to U.S. Federal Aviation Administration guidelines, flying its drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) within a 6-mile (9.6 km) radius from stores.
Walmart is also collaborating with multiple drone providers to enhance its delivery services. Last year, Zipline launched its first P2 drone site at Walmart stores in Mesquite and Waxahachie, Texas, offering a quieter alternative to traditional delivery trucks.
As the demand for convenient delivery options continues to grow, the partnership between Wing and Walmart aims to reshape the landscape of retail delivery, making essential items more accessible to consumers across the nation.
