European cyclocross champion Thibau Nys of Baloise Glowi Lions kicked off his 2025-26 cyclocross season with an impressive solo victory at the Koppenbergcross, the opening event of the X2O Trofee series. Nys, aged 22, had concluded his road racing season in August and announced his intent to pursue an extended cyclocross campaign, missing only the first two weekends of the season before clinching his initial win.
Nys displayed remarkable skill and determination, pulling away from the competition on the second lap. He showcased his strength on the iconic Koppenberg climb, where he waved to enthusiastic fans before crossing the finish line with his arms raised in triumph. His victory was marked by a strategic performance that left his competitors trailing.
British champion Cameron Mason of Seven Racing finished in second place, crossing the line 21 seconds after Nys. Mason’s race was not without challenges; he sustained a broken shoe following a fall at the end of lap four. Despite this setback, he managed to secure his podium position.
Completing the top three was Belgian rider Pim Ronhaar, also from Baloise Glowi Lions, who finished 1 minute and 44 seconds behind Nys. The podium reflects the competitive nature of the event, setting the tone for an exciting cyclocross season ahead.
As the first round of the X2O Trofee, the Koppenbergcross attracted significant attention, showcasing some of the best talent in the sport. Results were powered by FirstCycling, ensuring accurate tracking of performance throughout the race.
