Tesla has taken the lead in JD Power’s latest technology survey, achieving a score of 873 points out of 1,000—more than double that of established competitors like Volkswagen and Toyota. Despite this impressive performance, Tesla did not receive any awards due to eligibility issues outlined by the survey’s criteria.
Survey Results Highlight Tesla’s Leadership
According to JD Power’s 2025 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study, which gathered feedback from owners of new 2025 model-year vehicles, Tesla’s score positions it as the clear frontrunner. Rivian followed in second place with a notable score of 730 points. However, both Tesla and Rivian were deemed ineligible for awards because they do not fulfill specific criteria, which reportedly require automakers to sell vehicles in all U.S. states.
As a result of these restrictions, Genesis was awarded the top rank in JD Power’s study, despite receiving a score of only 538. Following Genesis were Cadillac and Lincoln, with scores of 526 and 523, respectively.
Driver Insights and Technology Trends
JD Power noted a decrease in technology-related issues reported by drivers, with a reduction of 6.3 problems per 100 vehicles compared to the previous year. This improvement is credited with enhancing the overall user experience. Among the features that users appreciated the most was automatic climate control, which effectively manages vehicle heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
“Smart technology not only seems to anticipate the driver’s needs but also reduces the cognitive workload and some of the difficulties that drivers face with digital systems,” stated Kathleen Rizk, senior director of technology at JD Power.
Despite the positive feedback regarding many features, some drivers expressed frustrations with the placement of the car wash mode within the infotainment menus. Additionally, recognition systems were reported to malfunction occasionally. On a more positive note, the blind spot camera was well-received, with 93% of users reporting regular use and 74% indicating they would prefer this feature in future vehicles.
The survey results reflect the growing importance of technology in enhancing the driving experience, while also highlighting the challenges that automakers face in meeting consumer expectations.
