Tesla Enhances Summon Feature with Major Upgrades

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced significant enhancements to the company’s Actually Smart Summon (ASS) feature, aiming to improve user experience and functionality. This update is particularly focused on addressing challenges faced by owners when summoning their vehicles from locations such as parking lots or multi-level garages.

Improvements to Actually Smart Summon

Launched in September 2025, ASS was a highly anticipated upgrade from Tesla’s previous Summon feature, which allowed users to call their vehicles to their location. This latest iteration has introduced various enhancements, including increased range, improved accuracy, and better overall performance. Despite these advancements, many users have reported limitations with the feature, particularly in complex environments.

Musk acknowledged that while ASS has shown notable improvement, it remains a work in progress. Some Tesla owners have expressed frustration with the system’s occasional hesitance or failure to operate as expected. One user shared a detailed illustration of a recent experience, highlighting the challenges faced when using the feature in an actual parking scenario.

“Sometimes, I find it to be too hesitant, or not work at all,” tweeted a Tesla owner, illustrating the limitations of the feature.

One of the critical areas Tesla is focusing on for improvement is the ability to summon vehicles from different levels of a parking garage. Currently, users must navigate elevators or stairs to access their cars, which can be inconvenient. Musk stated that an altitude sensor could help address this issue, allowing the ASS feature to function more reliably in multi-level garages.

Future Enhancements and User Feedback

Many Tesla enthusiasts believe that the ability to summon a car directly from the ground level of a parking structure would be a game-changing enhancement. One owner noted that the ASS feature is most useful in multi-level garages, but its current limitations hinder its effectiveness. Suggestions from users, including the addition of an altitude sensor, are being taken into account as Tesla works on future upgrades.

Musk responded positively to concerns about the existing limitations, stating, “Not for long,” indicating that improvements are on the horizon. This commitment to refining the ASS feature aligns with Tesla’s broader goal of enhancing its Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities.

As Tesla continues to innovate, the enhancements to Actually Smart Summon represent a significant step forward in making the vehicle ownership experience more seamless and user-friendly. With ongoing updates and user feedback, the company aims to address current shortcomings and expand the feature’s functionality in everyday scenarios.

As the automotive industry evolves, Tesla’s focus on improving user experience with features like ASS highlights the company’s dedication to leveraging technology for practical solutions. The upcoming enhancements are anticipated not only to bolster user satisfaction but also to reaffirm Tesla’s position as a leader in automotive innovation.
