Recent Deaths in Charleston Area: Community Mourns Losses

The Charleston area has experienced a wave of bereavement, with multiple deaths reported over the past week. Notable among those who passed away are individuals from various local communities, with arrangements made by several funeral homes.

In Charleston County, William Charles ARENT, aged 88, from Mount Pleasant, died on Friday, July 27, 2025. His arrangements are being handled by McAlister-Smith’s Mount Pleasant Chapel. Dolores Jean KRUPCZAK, 91, also from North Charleston, passed away on Saturday. Her arrangements have been entrusted to Stuhr’s Northwoods Chapel.

Additionally, Michael Anthony McCOY, 65, of Ladson, died on Wednesday. The Lowcountry Mortuary of North Charleston is managing his arrangements. Another North Charleston resident, Roosevelt PENDERGRAST, 62, died on Monday, with arrangements also in the care of The Lowcountry Mortuary. Bonnie Lee SELL, 76, of Charleston, died on July 18, and her arrangements are being conducted by McAlister-Smith’s James Island Chapel. Lastly, Roger Allen SWIFT, 79, of Johns Island, died on Saturday, with the Palmetto Cremation Society of North Charleston overseeing his arrangements. Carol Rose WILLIAMSON, 93, of Isle of Palms, died on Thursday, with her arrangements being handled by McAlister-Smith’s Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Berkeley and Dorchester Counties Remember Their Residents

In Berkeley County, Martha E. BRIGHT, aged 76, from St. Stephen, died on Wednesday. Her arrangements are managed by Carolina Memorial Funeral Home of North Charleston. Another tragic loss occurred when Cody Robert CRAGO, 30, from Summerville, died, also on Wednesday, with arrangements facilitated by Dial-Murray Funeral Home of Moncks Corner. Marlene E. SATTERFIELD, 94, of Goose Creek, passed away on Friday, and Carolina Memorial Funeral Home is handling her arrangements.

In Dorchester County, Linda Rose COOK, 77, of Summerville, died on Friday. Her arrangements are being managed by Parks Funeral Home.

Deaths Beyond South Carolina

Outside the immediate region, several notable deaths have been reported. William S. Brown Jr., 77, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died on Friday, with arrangements conducted by Borkoski Funeral Home of Tiltonsville. Larry Deon RABON, 84, of Florence, passed away on June 24, with arrangements by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence. Carol Jean WALTERS, 54, of Eutawville, died on Friday, with arrangements again managed by Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Lastly, Elizabeth WASHINGTON, 73, from New York, N.Y., died on July 19, and her arrangements have been taken care of by Divinity Mortuary of Moncks Corner.

This recent string of deaths highlights the fragility of life and the shared sorrow that communities experience during such times. Families and friends gather to remember their loved ones, reflecting on the memories and legacies they leave behind.
