Opera has announced a significant partnership with Google to integrate the advanced AI model, Gemini, into its web browsers. This new feature, branded as Opera AI, will replace the company’s previous in-browser AI solution, known as Aria. The integration aims to enhance user interaction with the web, offering an array of AI-driven tools directly within the Opera One and Opera GX browsers.
According to Per Wetterdal, the executive vice president of Opera, “AI is reshaping how people interact with the web, and the browser is the natural entry point for those experiences.” He emphasized that the collaboration with Google allows Opera to provide users with the tools they desire through native search and AI capabilities, all at no cost. Notably, users of the most advanced Opera Neon browser will already have access to the enhanced version, known as Gemini 3 Pro.
With this rollout, Opera One, Opera GX, and Opera Neon users can access the latest Gemini AI models through a newly introduced side panel, aptly named Opera AI. This feature enables users to engage with online content more interactively by asking questions, conducting in-depth research, obtaining summaries, and comparing different tabs seamlessly.
Opera AI also includes voice input and output functionalities, designed to optimize user experience. The new architecture, originally developed for the Neon browser, has been rebuilt to ensure faster performance. Opera notes that the browser is evolving into a crucial platform for AI engagement.
“Unlike a standalone chat interface, the browser has access to real-time context such as a user’s open tabs, page content, and browsing flows,” Opera explains. This capability allows for more relevant and efficient assistance, facilitating task completion directly within the browsing experience.
For those interested in exploring these advancements, further information about Opera and its browser offerings can be found on the official Opera website. The collaboration with Google marks a significant step in the ongoing evolution of web interaction, making AI tools more accessible and integrated into everyday browsing.
