Mentor City Suspends Server Operations Following Cyberattack

The city of Mentor, Ohio, recently experienced a cyberattack that led to the suspension of its hosted servers. This precaution aims to safeguard municipal data while the city assesses the situation.

As of now, the Mentor Police Department and Mentor Municipal Court expect to have their phone lines operational again by October 27, 2023. Notably, emergency services, including 911 and non-emergency dispatch, remain unaffected by the cyber incident, ensuring continued public safety.

The city has stated that there is no evidence suggesting that any private information has been compromised. Officials are currently working to restore integrated systems to full functionality. Initially, phone services were disrupted; however, the city reports that all general lines have since been restored, allowing residents to access essential services.

Impact on Services and Communication

While the city is committed to providing uninterrupted services, it has issued a notice to residents regarding potential delays in fulfilling requests related to data access during the restoration period. Some online services may also be temporarily unavailable.

Residents who encounter issues accessing services or who cannot reach specific city representatives are encouraged to use the main published phone numbers or email addresses associated with the relevant departments. City representatives will assist directly or connect residents with the appropriate personnel.

The city plans to keep the public informed, promising updates should any future service disruptions occur. As the situation develops, Mentor officials remain proactive in their efforts to mitigate any potential risks associated with the cyberattack.

This incident underscores the importance of cybersecurity measures in protecting municipal data and maintaining public trust. City officials continue to prioritize transparency and communication as they navigate this challenge.
