HONOR MagicPad 4 Review: A Strong Contender for Your Next Tablet

The HONOR MagicPad 4 has made a significant impact in the tablet market, drawing attention with its impressive specifications and performance. Unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, this device has been tested under real-world conditions, traveling from the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco to multiple destinations across the globe. After extensive use, it becomes clear that the MagicPad 4 offers a compelling alternative to traditional laptops.

Design and Build Quality

HONOR has consistently delivered well-built devices, and the MagicPad 4 is no exception. With a remarkable thickness of just 4.8mm and ultra-slim bezels measuring approximately 4mm, the tablet is visually striking and feels comfortable in hand. The lightweight design, weighing only 450g, enhances its portability, making it an excellent choice for users on the go.

The tablet’s build quality is complemented by its eight speakers, which utilize HONOR Spatial Audio technology. This results in an immersive audio experience, whether watching movies, playing games, or enjoying music. The speaker setup significantly enhances media consumption, distinguishing this device from competitors.

Display Excellence

The display on the HONOR MagicPad 4 is a standout feature, boasting a 12.3-inch OLED screen with a peak brightness of 2,400 nits. This display supports refresh rates of up to 165Hz, providing smooth visuals and a comfortable viewing experience. It is also certified by TÜV Rheinland for flicker-free and low blue light emissions, making it suitable for extended use.

The tablet employs a high 5,280Hz pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming technology, which reduces eye strain and enhances user comfort. This thoughtful feature encourages users to engage with the device for longer periods without discomfort, an essential consideration for those who use tablets for work or entertainment.

Performance and Software

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, the MagicPad 4 delivers fast and responsive performance. Users can expect seamless multitasking, whether switching between applications or engaging in graphically demanding gaming. The configuration tested included 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, showcasing the tablet’s ability to handle various tasks efficiently.

Despite some occasional sluggishness in Google Play downloads, the overall performance has been commendable. Users have reported no lag or stuttering, which is crucial for maintaining workflow and productivity. Unfortunately, benchmark applications are blocked by HONOR, limiting the ability to provide hard performance metrics. Nonetheless, real-world usage confirms that the MagicPad 4 excels in both productivity and entertainment applications.

The software experience has also improved significantly. The MagicPad 4 includes a PC Mode that activates upon connecting a keyboard, offering a desktop-like interface similar to Samsung’s DeX. This feature enhances productivity, enabling users to manage files and applications more effectively. While it may not fully replace a laptop for all users, it comes remarkably close, handling approximately 90% of tasks typically reserved for traditional computers.

Conclusion: Is It Worth It?

For those in search of a flagship Android tablet, the HONOR MagicPad 4 stands out as a strong contender. With its stunning OLED display, impressive audio capabilities, and robust performance, it offers a compelling alternative to other high-end tablets from major brands. However, potential buyers should note that the MagicPad 4 is currently not available in the United States and may not be in the future, limiting its accessibility for some.

For consumers in Europe and Asia, the MagicPad 4 represents a high-quality option that balances performance and design. It is thin, fast, and capable of handling daily tasks with ease. For anyone looking to invest in a premium Android tablet without the high price tag of an iPad Pro, the MagicPad 4 should be at the top of their list.
