Google Introduces Personalized Intelligence Feature for Gemini Chatbot

Today, Google announced the launch of a new feature called Personal Intelligence for its Gemini chatbot, currently available in beta in the United States. This opt-in feature enables Gemini to generate personalized responses by utilizing data from various Google applications, including Search, Gmail, Photos, and YouTube. Previously known as Google Bard, Gemini is now equipped with enhanced capabilities under its latest model, Gemini 3.

The Personal Intelligence feature allows Gemini to deliver tailored information based on users’ interactions and content within their Google accounts. For instance, in a demonstration, Google illustrated how the chatbot can assist users in selecting appropriate tires for their minivan by referencing images from past road trips. Additionally, Gemini can identify specific vehicle details, such as trim and license plates, by accessing relevant emails from Gmail.

How Personal Intelligence Works

This new feature is set to roll out to eligible subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra over the next week. Once enabled, users will have the option to select which Google applications they wish to connect to Gemini, with the ability to modify these connections at any time. Google has emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that Gemini will explain the sources of its information when utilizing Personal Intelligence. Users will also have the opportunity to correct the chatbot if it provides inaccurate information and can request responses that do not involve personalization.

According to Google, “Our goal is to improve your experience while keeping your data secure and under your control. Built with privacy in mind, Gemini doesn’t train directly on your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. We train on limited info, like specific prompts in Gemini and the model’s responses, to improve functionality over time.” This statement underscores the company’s commitment to user privacy as it enhances the chatbot’s capabilities.

Future Expansion Plans

Looking ahead, Google intends to expand the Personal Intelligence feature to free users and additional countries. Moreover, the company has announced plans to integrate this functionality into its AI Mode for search in the near future. At present, the feature will be accessible exclusively to paying subscribers with personal Google accounts, marking a significant development in the evolution of AI-driven personal assistants.

As Google continues to innovate within its suite of applications, the introduction of Personal Intelligence in Gemini represents a substantial step toward delivering a more customized user experience. The technology aims to leverage the wealth of information available across Google apps while prioritizing user privacy and control.
