DAS North America, a leading supplier of seat components for both Hyundai and Kia, has announced a significant expansion in Montgomery, Alabama. The company is investing $77.6 million to enhance its operations, which will create an additional 100 jobs in the region. This development builds upon the existing workforce of approximately 500 employees at the facility.
The new seat components produced by DAS North America will support the Hyundai assembly plant in Montgomery and the Kia plant located just across the state line in West Point, Georgia. Construction for this expansion is set to begin soon, with completion anticipated by early 2027. Phased operations are expected to commence in late 2027, with full operational capacity projected for 2028.
Investment Highlights and Community Impact
Since establishing its presence in Montgomery in 2012, DAS North America has steadily increased its investment in the area. This latest expansion will bring the company’s total investment in Montgomery to approximately $235.8 million.
Sean Kim, Chief Operating Officer of DAS North America, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion. “We are proud to expand our presence in Montgomery and strengthen our partnership with the State of Alabama and the local community,” he stated. “This investment reflects our confidence in the region’s workforce and business environment.”
This announcement aligns with recent findings from Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, who released the 2025 New & Expanding Industry Report. The report highlights that Alabama has achieved its highest annual total for capital investment in history. Montgomery has seen over $1.1 billion in capital investments, with more than 90% coming from existing employers reinvesting in the local economy. This trend underscores a strong confidence among employers and signals long-term regional growth.
Local economic agencies, including the Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce, view this expansion as a positive development that will bolster both employment opportunities and the overall economic landscape of the region. As DAS North America moves forward with its plans, it sets a precedent for other companies considering investment in Alabama.
The expansion not only reflects DAS North America’s growth but also emphasizes the company’s commitment to the Montgomery community and its role in the automotive industry. By enhancing its operations, DAS is positioning itself to meet the increasing demand for vehicle components while contributing to the local economy.
