Clicks Unveils Unique Smartphone Inspired by Classic BlackBerry

The smartphone landscape is set to welcome a distinctive entrant as Clicks announces the launch of its new device, the Clicks Communicator, scheduled for early 2026. This modern smartphone draws inspiration from the classic BlackBerry, aiming to cater to users seeking a streamlined experience focused on messaging and productivity.

The Clicks Communicator features a compact design with a 4.03-inch AMOLED display and a full QWERTY keyboard, reminiscent of the iconic BlackBerry devices. Unlike contemporary smartphones that emphasize social media apps, the Communicator is designed for users who prioritize communication efficiency over scrolling through feeds.

The device’s home screen, developed in partnership with Niagara Launcher, lists incoming messages from various platforms, including Google Messages, WhatsApp, and email clients. This intentional design choice highlights Clicks’ commitment to creating a device that serves as a productivity hub rather than a typical smartphone.

While the Clicks Communicator can function as a standalone device, it is primarily positioned as a secondary tool for users alongside their existing smartphones. This approach may appeal to those looking to reduce social media usage or prefer a smaller form factor.

Equipped with Android 16, the Communicator is compatible with a wide range of applications similar to those available on devices from Samsung and Google. Although specific details regarding the processor remain undisclosed, Clicks has confirmed that it will feature a modern 4nm System on a Chip (SoC) from MediaTek. This suggests the device will fall within the mid-range category, which aligns with its launch price of $500. Early reservations will enjoy a discounted price of $399.

As for functionality, the Communicator incorporates a mix of traditional and innovative features that will resonate with physical keyboard enthusiasts. It includes a 3.5mm headphone jack and expandable MicroSD storage, along with a touch-sensitive keyboard that doubles as a trackpad and a fingerprint reader integrated into the spacebar. These elements are reminiscent of features found in earlier BlackBerry models such as the Passport and KeyOne.

A standout feature of the Clicks Communicator is the Signal LED, a customizable RGB notification light located on the device’s side. Users can assign specific colors to alerts from different messaging platforms or contacts, allowing for an intuitive and personalized notification experience.

Despite its unique features, the device may face challenges in a market dominated by larger smartphones designed for multimedia consumption. The Clicks Communicator represents an intriguing option for those nostalgic for the functionality of classic smartphones, offering a potential solution for users seeking to enhance their productivity without the distractions of modern social media.

As the launch date approaches, tech enthusiasts and productivity-focused users alike will be watching closely to see if the Clicks Communicator can carve out a niche in an increasingly competitive smartphone market.
