Plans for an Auto Zone retail location in Wright Township are advancing as the township planning commission granted conditional approval for the development on July 15, 2023. The site is situated adjacent to the Steve Shannon Tire and Auto Center on South Mountain Boulevard. Following this, the township supervisors approved the stormwater management facility associated with the project during their meeting on August 11.
In addition to the Auto Zone development, Wright Township is also involved in equipment sales. The township, along with Dorrance Township, is preparing to auction several used vehicles, including two dump trucks. Dorrance Township supervisors have authorized an agreement with Auctions International, Inc. for an online auction featuring a 2014 Dodge Ram 5500 Dump Truck. This auction is scheduled to take place from August 20 to September 3, 2023. The resolution indicates that the township reserves the right to reject any bids deemed insufficient, with final acceptance of bids to occur at the supervisors’ meeting on September 8.
Wright Township is actively seeking bids for additional equipment. They have advertised the sale of a 2005 GMC C7500 dump truck with a minimum bid set at $12,000, a set of Haenni scales starting at $5,000, a Salt Dog Taigare spreader for a minimum of $1,000, and a 10-foot Smith hopper with a starting bid of $2,500. A previous bid of $750 for the Smith hopper was rejected.
Dorrance Township Development and Staffing Updates
In Dorrance Township, supervisors have approved a sewage facility plan for the Blue Ridge Estates development. This project, which was initially approved last year, will occupy approximately 78 acres at the intersection of Stairville and Blytheburn Roads. The development, led by The Preserve at Blue Ridge LLC, is set to include 22 wooded building sites ranging from 2.5 to 4.96 acres. According to Robert Tamburro, managing member of The Preserve at Blue Ridge, the larger lots will accommodate homes with minimum sizes of 3,000 square feet for two-story houses and 2,200 square feet for ranch-style homes.
Dorrance Township is also on the lookout for a full-time employee for its road department. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply directly to the township supervisors or the township secretary.
Paving Initiatives in Wright Township
In further developments, Wright Township supervisors have awarded a contract valued at $328,568.40 to Lehigh Asphalt Paving and Construction Co. for paving projects on Oak Road and Terrace Drive. This work will be funded through a Local Share Account (LSA) grant. The supervisors have also decided to pursue an additional LSA grant of $379,635.50 aimed at paving Stone Hedge Place.
These ongoing projects reflect the township’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and community services, ensuring that both Wright and Dorrance Townships continue to develop and meet the needs of their residents.
