Apple Music Expands with New Culver City Studio, Celebrating 10 Years

Apple Music is marking its 10th anniversary with the announcement of a new studio in Culver City, California, set to open this summer. The tech giant revealed plans for a three-story facility featuring a 4,000-square-foot soundstage designed to host live performances and fan events.

The announcement was made on Monday, with Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s co-head, stating, “With this new studio, we are furthering our commitment to creating a space for artists to create, connect, and share their vision.” The studio will span over 15,000 square feet, including two radio studios for live interviews and performances, a spatial audio mixing room, and dedicated spaces for songwriting and podcasting.

Architectural Marvel in Culver City

Located in the Hayden Tract neighborhood of Culver City, the studio’s building was designed by renowned Los Angeles architect Eric Owen Moss. Known for his distinctive and sculptural structures, Moss’s design aligns with Apple’s innovative ethos. Although Apple has not specified an exact opening date, the facility’s impending debut underscores the company’s expanding presence in Southern California.

This development is part of Apple’s broader strategy to increase its footprint in the entertainment industry. The company is also constructing a new office complex on the border of Culver City and Los Angeles, which will accommodate its television streaming service, Apple TV+.

Supporting Creativity in the Digital Age

As technology continues to revolutionize storytelling in music and film, companies like Apple are emphasizing their role in fostering creativity. The new studio in Culver City is envisioned as a hub for artistic collaboration and innovation, anchoring a global network of creative spaces in cities such as New York, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, and Nashville.

Apple’s commitment to creativity was highlighted last year when the company faced backlash over an iPad Pro advertisement. The commercial, which depicted musical instruments being crushed by a hydraulic press, was criticized by some as a metaphor for technology stifling creativity. Apple’s new studio initiative appears to counter this narrative, reinforcing its support for artists and creators.

Celebrating a Decade of Apple Music

In addition to the studio announcement, Apple Music is celebrating its decade-long journey with a special countdown of the service’s top 500 most-streamed songs, starting July 1. The platform will also introduce a “Replay All Time” playlist, allowing users to revisit and stream their most-played tracks since joining the service.

This celebration not only reflects on Apple Music’s past achievements but also sets the stage for future innovations and expansions. As the company continues to invest in creative spaces and digital content, it remains poised to shape the future of music and entertainment.

Apple’s strategic moves in Culver City and beyond highlight its commitment to blending technology with creativity, ensuring that artists have the tools and spaces they need to thrive in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
