West Virginia University (WVU) football has strengthened its future roster by securing two new commitments for the class of 2026, despite facing a challenging defeat against Utah over the weekend. The Mountaineers added a promising 3-star quarterback and a talented pass rusher, signaling a strong recruiting effort moving forward.
Wyatt Brown Joins as Quarterback
On Sunday afternoon, quarterback Wyatt Brown, a 3-star recruit from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, announced his commitment to WVU. Brown, who stands at 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 196 pounds, has been recognized as the 163rd-rated quarterback and the 277th player overall in California.
Brown’s impressive performance this season included throwing for 301 yards and five touchdowns against Culver City, along with an additional rushing touchdown. His strong showing earned him a spot on the Los Angeles Times list of high school top performers for the week. Despite receiving offers from several Division 1 programs, including California, Arkansas, UCF, and Cornell, Brown chose to head across the country to Morgantown to join the Mountaineers.
Carter Kessler Commits as Pass Rusher
Following Brown’s announcement, pass rusher Carter Kessler made his commitment known on Monday morning. Hailing from Shelby, Ohio, Kessler is ranked as the 44th player in the state and the 88th pass rusher nationally. At 6 feet 5 inches and 235 pounds, Kessler brings a versatile skill set, having also played tight end and contributing with a touchdown catch against Highland.
Kessler was on campus for his official visit just before the game against Utah, and he expressed enthusiasm for the program, leading to his decision to join WVU. He had previously attracted interest from other notable schools, including Ohio State. Kessler becomes the second pass rusher to commit to the Mountaineers for the 2026 class, joining fellow 3-star recruit Noah Tishendorf.
With the additions of Brown and Kessler, WVU’s 2026 recruiting class now boasts a total of 26 commitments, showcasing the program’s continued effort to build a competitive team for the future.
