Tumwater Triumphs Over Battle Ground in Close 60-57 Contest

The Tumwater boys basketball team secured a narrow victory against Battle Ground, winning 60-57 on January 15, 2024. The game took place at the Myklebust Gymnasium at Lower Columbia College during the Martin Luther King Jr. Basketball Tribute. This win boosted Tumwater’s record to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in the 2A Evergreen Conference.

Throughout the match, both teams displayed competitive spirit and skill. Tumwater started strong but found themselves trailing by one point as they entered the fourth quarter. In a decisive final frame, the Thunderbirds outscored the Tigers 19-15, clinching the win in a thrilling finish.

Luke Overbay led Tumwater with a standout performance, recording a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. His contribution was complemented by Owen Reamer, who added 14 points to the scoreboard. Landon Anchors and Julian Balsley each scored 12 points, with Balsley also contributing four assists, three rebounds, and two steals.

Battle Ground fought hard, with Ryan McGowan leading their scoring efforts with 15 points. He was closely followed by teammates Riley Andrews and Tyler Gill, who each scored 14 points. Despite their efforts, the Tigers fell short in the final moments of the game.

Looking ahead, Tumwater will embark on a challenging five-game road trip, starting with a match against Shelton on January 16, 2024. The team’s strong performance in this game sets a positive tone as they prepare for upcoming challenges in the season.
