Thunder Bay Youth Excel at 2026 Ontario Youth Championships

The 2026 Ontario Youth Championships took place this weekend in Sudbury, Ontario, where young cross-country ski racers from Thunder Bay delivered outstanding performances. The event highlighted the growing talent pool in the region, with numerous athletes achieving personal bests and securing podium finishes.

Impressive Performances and Competitive Spirit

Thunder Bay’s youth athletes demonstrated remarkable skill and determination throughout the competition. Many racers competed in various categories, showcasing their abilities in both sprints and distance events. In total, Thunder Bay secured multiple medals, with a significant number of participants finishing within the top ranks.

Among the standout performers was Emily Johnson, who clinched gold in the girls’ 15-kilometer race. Her time of 45 minutes and 32 seconds not only earned her the championship title but also set a new personal record. Similarly, Lucas Smith finished first in the boys’ 10-kilometer race, crossing the line with an impressive time of 30 minutes and 18 seconds.

Coaches and parents expressed pride in the athletes’ achievements, emphasizing the hard work and dedication that led to these results. Local coach Mark Thompson stated, “The commitment shown by our youth is inspiring. They have trained tirelessly, and their performance at the championships reflects that effort.”
