The Staten Island Women’s Golf Association (SIWGA) successfully hosted its annual Solheim Tournament on September 13 at the Silver Lake Golf Course. The event attracted talented female golfers from across Staten Island, competing fiercely in both gross and net divisions under bright, sunny skies.
In the Gross Division, the duo of Kathy Kennedy and Kathy Devlin emerged victorious, finishing with an impressive score of 80. They were closely followed by Patty Ruch and Loretta O’Hara, who secured second place with a score of 84. Rounding out the top three, Ellen Gribbin and Lynda Preziosa delivered a strong performance, finishing with a score of 85.
The Net Division showcased equally remarkable talent. The team of Mayuko Perpetua and Diane Buglioli claimed first place with a stellar score of 64, narrowly edging out Cathy Viverito and Cathy Magill, who finished second with a score of 65. Amy Powell and Joanne Gerenser followed closely in third place with a score of 66, while Debbie Rusolo and Maria Caldarella placed fourth with a score of 67.
Upcoming Events and Celebrations
Looking ahead, the SIWGA is gearing up for the Interclub Tournament scheduled for October 5 at LaTourette Golf Course. This exciting event will feature eight different clubs competing for top honors. The SIWGA season will culminate with the End-of-Year Dinner and Awards Ceremony on October 9 at The Staaten, where members will celebrate their achievements and reflect on another successful season of women’s golf on Staten Island.
The Solheim Tournament not only highlighted the skill and competitiveness of the participants but also reinforced the camaraderie within the community of women golfers.
