In Las Vegas over the weekend, the annual Vegas Spring Fling brought together 25 skilled pitchers from the Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Association for an exciting competition. The event took place at the Jaycee Leavitt Community Park horseshoe courts, where participants showcased their skills in four classes, including a special handicap division.
Under mostly sunny skies, with a light breeze coming from the northeast, competitors engaged in spirited matches. The event featured both seasoned players and newcomers, fostering a welcoming atmosphere. Larry Workman from Henderson emerged as a lucky winner, taking home the grand prize of $170 from the 50/50 raffle.
March 28, 2024, marks the date for the next NSHPA tournament, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in Pahrump. Participants are encouraged to bring a dish for a potluck lunch, as highlighted by NSHPA regional director Lathan “Rebel” Dilger.
Competition Results
The competition saw impressive performances across all classes, with champions emerging in each category.
In Class A, Sam Godbouldt from Las Vegas claimed the top spot, followed closely by Brian Olsen from Spanish Fork, Utah, and Jim Magda from Henderson.
Class B saw Michael Nicosia from Pahrump take first place, with Heath Russell of Las Vegas and Scotty “Dawg” Hardy from Summerlin securing second and third places, respectively.
In Class C, Neal Schulte from Las Vegas clinched the championship, with Joshua Russell also from Las Vegas finishing second, and Jeff Corwin from Kingman, Arizona, taking third.
The Class D (Handicap Division) champion was Ralph Geringer from Summerlin, followed by Jamie Frost from Kingman, Arizona, and Lance Hahaj from Round Mountain in third place.
The event not only highlighted the talent within the horseshoe pitching community but also served as a platform for camaraderie and local engagement. The NSHPA continues to foster this vibrant sport, encouraging players of all skill levels to participate and enjoy friendly competition.
