Rising NASCAR Star Carson Hocevar Saves Hometown Chili’s from Closure

Carson Hocevar, a promising young driver in the NASCAR Cup Series, has made headlines not just on the track but also in the business world. The 21-year-old from Portage, Michigan, recently purchased his local Chili’s restaurant to prevent its closure. The establishment was facing demolition to make way for a new Kroger grocery store and gas station, a development that had raised concerns among community members.

In a bold move, Hocevar took action after learning about the impending closure through a social media post by radio station WRKR. The post stated, “Kroger will be totally tearing down this whole plaza in all buildings located here before beginning the construction on their new building.” After hearing the news, Hocevar reached out to the restaurant chain and finalized the acquisition of the Chili’s location he frequented while growing up.

Hocevar announced his purchase on social media, expressing his excitement: “I BOUGHT MY HOMETOWN CHILI’S LOCATION IN PORTAGE, MICHIGAN!!! I wanted to be able to save this location as it’s very close to home.” His commitment to the community resonated with fans and locals alike, who were relieved to learn that their beloved dining spot would remain open.

The decision to invest in the restaurant is not only personal for Hocevar, but it could also serve as a strategic move to enhance his brand. A comment from a fan on social media hinted at this possibility, stating, “That’s one way to have a sponsorship for life.” With his racing career on the rise with Spire Motorsports, Hocevar’s ownership of the Chili’s could create unique promotional opportunities, especially given the restaurant’s history of engaging with motorsports.

Hocevar’s passion for both racing and his hometown is evident. He even shared an image online of a Chili’s restaurant featuring a No. 77 Chili’s paint scheme, which aligns with the restaurant’s marketing efforts focused on NASCAR. This visual representation echoes the strong connection between the racing community and local businesses.

As Hocevar embarks on this new venture, he aims to invite the community to enjoy meals at the restaurant that holds special significance for him. “Hope everyone can come in and grab a bite to eat!” he concluded in his announcement. His acquisition not only preserves a beloved local eatery but also reflects his commitment to giving back to his roots in Portage.

The reaction from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for Hocevar’s initiative. His decision showcases a blend of personal investment and community responsibility, which is a rare combination in the world of sports. As Hocevar continues to compete in NASCAR, he now has a new role to play off the track as a restaurant owner dedicated to supporting his hometown.
