Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) has announced that light-rail service into Downtown Pittsburgh will be disrupted on Monday, March 18, 2024, as crews undertake essential repairs to overhead electrical lines. Inbound T service will bypass the Steel Plaza station and terminate at Penn Station. Commuters should anticipate an additional travel time of at least 20 minutes for their journeys into the city center.
During this repair period, PRT will implement shuttle bus services to accommodate riders wishing to travel further into Downtown. These shuttle buses will operate along Liberty Avenue, making stops at both Gateway and Wood Street stations, which will not be served by rail service during the repairs.
For those starting their journey at Penn Station, outbound trains will remain available for riders heading to the South Hills. Additionally, a shuttle bus will facilitate transportation from Gateway back to Penn Station, ensuring connectivity for passengers.
Travelers aiming to reach the North Shore will still have access to T service from Gateway, with regular stops at North Side and Allegheny Station. PRT emphasizes the importance of planning ahead during this temporary disruption to minimize delays.
The light-rail service is expected to resume its regular schedule for the Tuesday morning commute, allowing riders to return to their usual travel routines. Commuters are encouraged to stay informed about any updates regarding the service changes through the PRT website and social media channels.
