The Indianapolis Colts have surprised many in the 2025 NFL season, winning eight of their first ten games. As they prepare for their upcoming match against the Kansas City Chiefs, wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. has addressed skeptics who underestimated the team’s potential this year.
Pittman expressed his preference for being underestimated, stating, “I would personally rather people underestimate us, just because it gives us that edge. For whatever reason, people don’t want to believe.” His comments were reported by Nathan Brown of the Indianapolis Star on November 7, 2025. He recalled how experts predicted the Colts would win only three games at the season’s start, a notion the team has clearly defied.
The Colts’ success has come despite initial doubts, particularly regarding their quarterback, Daniel Jones. After a challenging stint with the New York Giants, where he recorded a 3-13 record in his last 16 starts, Jones signed a one-year “prove it” deal with Indianapolis. As the Colts head into Week 12, Jones has shown significant improvement, ranking eighth in the league with a 66.4 adjusted QBR and accumulating 2,659 passing yards.
Despite this progress, concerns linger about his performance. In the two games preceding the bye week, Jones was accountable for six fumbles, three of which were lost, along with four interceptions. Nonetheless, the Colts have a potent offense, led by running back Jonathan Taylor, who tops the league with 1,139 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.
Pittman emphasized the team’s strong resolve, stating, “We saw all that talk about how, ‘Danny Dimes can’t do this or can’t do that,’ and, ‘This offense can’t do this, blah, blah, blah.’ We haven’t paid attention to it. We know we have good players.” He further praised the defense and offensive line, asserting that Taylor is an MVP front-runner.
Colts Eye Strong Performance Against Chiefs
As of November 7, 2025, sportsbooks listed the Colts as 3.5-point road underdogs for their game against the Chiefs, who currently hold a 5-5 record. Pittman underscored the importance of treating the Chiefs as a formidable opponent, despite their record. “We’ve gotta know that our work isn’t done,” he remarked. “Yeah, we’re sitting at 8-2, but we still have a lot of good teams out in front of us.”
Recognizing the challenge that lies ahead, Pittman noted the Chiefs’ reputation for toughness. He stated, “Any time you play the Chiefs, they always play tough. Just knowing we have to go there and play in one of the most hostile environments in all of football – their fans do a really great job of showing up and being loud – you can never take them lightly because they have so much talent, and their record doesn’t tell the full story.”
The Colts aim to maintain their momentum as they face the Chiefs, demonstrating confidence and determination to prove doubters wrong.
