In a closely contested college basketball matchup, the Northern Colorado Bears lost to the Denver Pioneers with a final score of 86-79 on December 20, 2025. The game took place at the Bank of Colorado Arena on the University of Northern Colorado campus in Greeley. This defeat marks a challenging moment for the Bears as they strive to improve their season record.

The Bears started strong, showcasing their offensive skills, but the Pioneers quickly responded, demonstrating their resilience and strategic play. Vincent Delano, a key guard for the Bears, led his team with impressive dribbling and shooting, attempting to penetrate the Pioneers’ defense throughout the game.

Despite their efforts, the Bears struggled to maintain a lead. Brock Wisne, another standout forward for Northern Colorado, attempted to drive towards the basket multiple times, but the Pioneers’ defense held firm, forcing several turnovers.

The Pioneers capitalized on these opportunities, with Jeremiah Burke and Julius Rollins playing pivotal roles in securing rebounds and fast breaks. Burke, in particular, was instrumental in regaining control of loose balls, which allowed Denver to extend their lead during critical moments of the game.

During a timeout, Bears head coach Steve Smiley emphasized the importance of teamwork and focus. His guidance highlighted the need for improved coordination as the game progressed. The Bears showed flashes of brilliance but were unable to convert key plays into points consistently.

As the match drew to a close, the Pioneers maintained their composure, executing their plays with precision. The final minutes saw the Bears desperately trying to close the gap, but Denver’s defense proved too strong.

The game ended with the Pioneers celebrating a hard-fought victory, while the Bears were left to reflect on missed opportunities. The matchup illustrated the competitive spirit of college basketball, with both teams demonstrating skill and determination.

Looking ahead, the Northern Colorado Bears will need to regroup and address their weaknesses as they prepare for their next challenge. Meanwhile, the Denver Pioneers will carry this momentum into their upcoming games, aiming to build on their success.

This thrilling encounter not only entertained fans but also showcased the potential of both teams as they continue to navigate their seasons.
