The North Schuylkill boys’ basketball team achieved a dominant victory, defeating Hanover 54-18 in their season opener. This win marked a significant milestone for first-year head coach Anthony Agosti, securing his first career win. The Spartans showcased a balanced scoring attack, with Jude Maziekas leading the effort with 13 points. The team established an early lead, going into halftime ahead 26-12, and extended their dominance in the second half with a 28-8 scoring run.
In the scoring lineup, Julian Nelson contributed nine points, while both Sam Wall and Cam Kocilowicz added eight points each. Caden Mengel rounded out the scoring with seven points. The Spartans’ defense proved effective, limiting Hanover’s offensive opportunities throughout the game.
In another match, the Tri-Valley boys triumphed over Schuylkill Valley with an 81-68 scoreline. Johnson Kingsley was the standout player, scoring 28 points, including eight three-pointers, while Braedyn Doyle added 24 points. The Bulldogs opened strong with a 31-14 run in the first quarter, setting the tone for the game.
Moving to the girls’ division, Pine Grove’s team delivered an impressive performance against Tri-Valley, winning decisively 51-15. Hollynn Sampson was the leading scorer with 21 points, supported by Lainey Fidler with nine points and both Kendra Umbenhauer and Callee Leffler contributing eight points each. Pine Grove established a commanding lead early, outscoring their opponents 21-7 in the first quarter and maintaining control throughout the match.
In a closely contested game, Dieruff edged out Tamaqua 52-43. Jayla Rosario led Dieruff with 21 points, while Tamaqua’s Mille Black scored 16 points in a strong effort. The decisive factor came in the third quarter, where Dieruff managed to outscore Tamaqua 14-9, creating a gap that proved insurmountable.
Wilkes-Barre also claimed a victory against Marian, winning 45-39. Jaida Underwood led all scorers with 19 points, while Addy Marek was the top performer for Marian with 17 points. The game showcased a competitive spirit as both teams fought hard for the season opener win.
