Scott Joseph Cluka, a revered former NASCAR pit crew member and Master Dive Instructor, passed away at his home on October 3, 2025, at the age of 61. Cluka, born on February 29, 1964, was celebrated for his loyalty and his remarkable ability to forge friendships wherever he went. His zest for adventure and deep affection for his friends permeated every aspect of his life.
From NASCAR to Diving: A Life of Passion
During the 1980s and 1990s, Cluka played a significant role in the success of several prominent NASCAR Winston Cup teams, including those led by racing legends such as Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace, Darrell Waltrip, and Kyle Petty. As a member of the Goodwrench #3 ‘Flying Aces’, he achieved the remarkable feat of being part of The World’s Fastest Pit Crew during the 1988 UNOCAL Pit Crew Challenge at North Carolina Motor Speedway. This record remains unchallenged to this day.
After a distinguished career in racing, Cluka opted for a quieter life beyond the limelight, embracing his passion for diving. He settled in St. John, US Virgin Islands, where he became a Master Dive Instructor. It was here that he met the love of his life, Lisa Crumrine. The couple shared a profound bond, embarking on numerous adventures together.
Commitment and Community Impact
In 2006, Scott and Lisa relocated to Woodstock, New York. When Lisa fell ill, Cluka dedicated himself to her care, demonstrating unwavering commitment and compassion throughout her illness. Their love story continued until Lisa’s passing in January.
While in Woodstock, Cluka’s appreciation for music and talent in the arts led him to support local musicians. He was actively involved in enhancing performances through lighting, sound, and stage management, drawing inspiration from Woodstock’s rich musical heritage.
Scott Cluka is survived by his mother, Suzy Cluka, and his sister, Kathy Cluka-Huffman, along with her husband, Troy, niece Samantha Flannery and her husband Taylor, great-niece Hazel Flannery, and nephew Matthew Nowak. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Andrew Cluka, and his brother, Michael Edward Cluka.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Scott Cluka will take place on November 1, from 1 PM to 3 PM at the Woodstock Clubhouse, located at 114 Mill Rd, Woodstock, NY. Friends, family, and community members are invited to join in celebrating his vibrant spirit and the love he shared with those around him.
