For the first time in six years, Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Stars will showcase their respective team uniforms during the Midsummer Classic in 2025. The decision marks a return to tradition after the league shifted to special All-Star jerseys from 2021 to 2024, a change that many fans found at odds with the game’s longstanding aesthetic.
MLB announced in September 2024 that players will wear their primary home and road uniforms to represent their “hometown” teams during the All-Star Game. This year’s festivities will take place at Truist Park in Atlanta, where National League All-Stars will don their home whites while American League All-Stars will compete in their road uniforms. In addition to the traditional uniforms, the game will feature specially designed caps that complement the players’ attire.
Special Jerseys for All-Star Events
While the All-Star Game will return to the classic uniform format, special All-Star jerseys will still play a significant role during the event. Players will wear these unique jerseys during the All-Star Workout Day and the Home Run Derby. The designs draw inspiration from the retro uniforms of the Atlanta Braves, incorporating elements of their typeface and the atmosphere of Truist Park.
This return to traditional uniforms for the All-Star Game echoes practices before 2018, when players wore their team uniforms during the event. Between 1930 and 2019, MLB All-Stars consistently donned their primary uniforms until the switch to All-Star jerseys in 2021. The 2020 All-Star Game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Honoring Baseball Legends
The Home Run Derby, scheduled for July 14, 2025, will feature players wearing jerseys that pay tribute to baseball legends. Participants from the National League will wear the number 44, honoring Hank Aaron, while American League players will don the number 3, in memory of Babe Ruth. These numbers correspond to Aaron’s historic 715 career home runs and Ruth’s legendary 714.
The initiative to honor these icons was proposed by former MLB pitcher CC Sabathia, who now serves as a special assistant to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. Sabathia’s influence in promoting these tributes reflects the league’s commitment to celebrating its storied history while engaging with the current generation of players and fans.
As the baseball community anticipates the 2025 All-Star Game, the return to traditional uniforms signifies a blend of nostalgia and respect for the sport’s rich heritage. Fans and players alike look forward to witnessing the Midsummer Classic unfold with the familiar colors of their favorite teams on full display.
