Minnesota United FC is set to strengthen its defense by signing right back Kyle Duncan, according to a source who spoke to the Pioneer Press. The deal comes as the club prepares for the upcoming 2026 season, addressing a critical need in the position. Duncan, aged 28, previously played for the New York Red Bulls from 2018 to 2025.
Duncan is expected to integrate into the team during their preseason preparations at the Coachella Valley Invitational in Indio, California. He will join the Loons as they conclude their training camp this weekend. Currently, Duncan is undergoing medical evaluations, with an official announcement regarding his signing anticipated shortly.
In the 2025 season, Duncan contributed three assists over 1,531 minutes across 20 matches. His contract option was declined by the Red Bulls in November, leading him to seek new opportunities. Throughout his career, he has accumulated a total of 11,202 minutes on the pitch in 147 Major League Soccer (MLS) matches and had a brief spell with Oostende in Belgium’s top division during the 2021-2022 season.
As Minnesota United prepares for the season, they have been filling the right back position with players not traditionally assigned to that role. In recent friendly matches, center backs Jefferson Diaz and Carlos Harvey have both taken on the right back duties. Diaz played in the 3-0 victory over Kansas City, while Harvey featured in the 0-0 draw against D.C. United on Wednesday.
Duncan’s addition is expected to provide the team with much-needed stability and experience as they aim for success in the upcoming season. His proven track record in MLS and international experience are anticipated to enhance Minnesota United’s defensive lineup significantly.
