Miami Dolphins Face Skepticism Ahead of 2025 NFL Season

National media outlets are projecting a challenging season for the Miami Dolphins in 2025, with expectations of a losing record. USA TODAY predicts the Dolphins will finish the season with a record of 5-12, while Sports Illustrated forecasts a slightly better outcome at 6-11. Analysts have expressed doubts about the team’s ability to reach the playoffs, with the Hard Rock Bet app giving Miami odds of +220 to qualify as one of the seven teams from the AFC.

Despite the skepticism, the Dolphins possess considerable talent on both sides of the ball. Coach Mike McDaniel has led the team to the postseason in each of his first two years, yet the current narrative is dominated by concerns following a lackluster joint practice with the Detroit Lions. This event drew significant media attention, further amplifying negative perceptions about the team across platforms like ESPN and NFL Network.

Criticism and Concerns Surrounding the Dolphins

Critics have raised various questions about the Dolphins’ leadership and team dynamics. ESPN’s Peter Schrager remarked, “None of it seems great coming out of Miami right now.” Meanwhile, Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports commented on the team’s appearance versus reality, stating, “Looks like Gucci, but closer inspection it’s suss.” Manti Te’o from NFL Network expressed doubts about the team’s leadership, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding who will steer the Dolphins in times of adversity.

To separate fact from fiction, it is essential to analyze the current roster and situation. There are real concerns regarding the cornerback position, and the loss of key players like Jalen Ramsey, Odell Beckham, and Jevon Holland raises questions about depth. However, some criticisms may be overstated. For instance, while there are claims that the Dolphins’ offensive line is destined for failure, recent evaluations suggest that improvements are possible.

The Dolphins previously struggled with player buy-in last season, but reports indicate that team chemistry is on the rise in 2025. Although the departures of Terron Armstead and Calais Campbell will be felt, the notion that Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Sieler lack leadership due to their personalities is unfounded. Both players have shown resilience and potential to lead the team effectively.

Talent Remains at the Core of the Dolphins

Amid the criticism, the Dolphins’ roster still boasts significant talent. Key players include Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Bradley Chubb, and Minkah Fitzpatrick. These athletes provide a strong foundation for the team. Despite the prevailing narrative, the idea that the Dolphins will struggle to secure five or six wins appears overly pessimistic.

The current atmosphere surrounding the Dolphins may lead to heightened scrutiny, but it is often said that, “it’s never quite as good as it seems, and never quite as bad as it seems.” The Dolphins have the opportunity to prove detractors wrong. With a roster filled with talent, the team has the potential to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.

As they prepare for the challenges of 2025, the Dolphins must focus on maintaining health, winning important games, and overcoming the obstacles that come with playing in adverse conditions. With low expectations from national media, the Dolphins could surprise many if they harness their talent effectively.

Joe Schad, a journalist covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL for The Palm Beach Post, emphasizes that dismissing the team this early could be premature. The Dolphins have the potential to make a statement this season, and it remains to be seen how they will navigate the challenges ahead.
