In a commanding performance, Macomb Lutheran North secured a 55-6 victory over Riverview Gabriel Richard on October 10, 2025. This win marked only the second time in the school’s history that the Mustangs have achieved a 7-0 record, reinforcing their status as a formidable team in the Catholic High School League Intersectional 1 Division.
The Mustangs displayed their dominance early, establishing a decisive 49-0 lead by the end of the second quarter. The game saw them maintain a commanding advantage, ultimately controlling play with a total yardage of 419-98. This victory not only keeps their perfect record intact but also positions them for a critical matchup against fellow unbeaten Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard next Friday in a contest that could determine the divisional champion.
Mustangs Show Off Offensive Firepower
Senior quarterback Cam Kubik orchestrated the offense with precision, finishing the game with 104 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed significantly on the ground, including a spectacular 37-yard touchdown run. Junior running back Connor Franz was a standout performer, rushing for 123 yards on 11 carries and scoring twice.
The first quarter saw the Mustangs quickly establish their dominance. They opened the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run from Franz, followed by Kubik’s rushing touchdown and a 47-yard touchdown pass to Adam Karr. By the end of the first quarter, the Mustangs had already built a comfortable 28-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the offensive machine continued to roll as Kubik connected with Ty Hoef for a 25-yard scoring pass, and Franz added a long touchdown run. The Mustangs capped the half with a score following an interception return deep into Riverview territory, showcasing their ability to capitalize on defensive opportunities.
Defensive Dominance and Future Challenges
On the defensive side, Lutheran North’s performance was equally impressive. Riverview Gabriel Richard struggled to gain momentum, failing to record a first down until late in the second quarter. The Mustangs’ defense allowed only six first downs throughout the game, highlighting their control over the matchup.
Head coach Garrett Wenzelburger praised the team’s efforts, noting the significance of their current success. “These boys come to play every week and they practice very hard,” he said. “We have a lot to play for in the regular season.” Wenzelburger referred to the school’s 1981 season, during which they also started 7-0, underlining the rarity of their current achievement.
As the Mustangs prepare for their upcoming clash with Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard, the stakes will be high. Both teams enter the game with identical records, making it a pivotal contest for the divisional title as well as a spot in the CHSL Prep Bowl. Kubik expressed his eagerness for the matchup, indicating a strong desire to continue their winning streak.
With their current form and the momentum they have built, Macomb Lutheran North aims to not only maintain their unbeaten record but also to extend their success into the playoffs. The team’s performance thus far indicates they are well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
