The Bemidji High School boys hockey team suffered a dramatic collapse in the third period, leading to a 6-2 defeat against St. Michael-Albertville on March 2, 2024. After entering the final period with a 2-1 advantage, the Lumberjacks were unable to withstand a relentless offensive surge from the Knights.
The game started with an early goal from St. Michael-Albertville’s Caden Clark, who found the net just 37 seconds into the first period. However, the Lumberjacks quickly responded. Wesley Truax scored the equalizer at 10:31, taking the score to 1-1 before the first intermission. Truax continued to shine, scoring again in the second period, this time unassisted, which gave Bemidji a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame.
As the third period commenced, the tides turned dramatically. Just four minutes in, Easton Monahan scored for St. Michael-Albertville, leveling the score at 2-2. The momentum shifted entirely when Braeden Waller found the back of the net at 10:42, giving the Knights a 3-2 advantage. Shortly after, Owen Volkenant extended the lead to 4-2 with another goal at 11:39.
The Lumberjacks’ struggles continued as the Knights added two more goals, one being an empty-net goal by Clark at 16:29 and a power play goal from Price at 16:44, sealing the game with a final score of 6-2.
The game statistics reflect a challenging match for the Lumberjacks. They scored twice in the first and second periods but were unable to secure any points in the final frame. The Knights, on the other hand, executed a powerful offensive strategy, scoring five goals in the third period alone.
