The Colquitt County Lady Packers achieved a thrilling comeback victory, defeating the Cook High Lady Hornets 10-9 in a dramatic eight-inning softball matchup on October 7, 2025, in Adel, Georgia. After trailing 6-0 in the early innings, the Lady Packers mounted a determined rally to secure the win and improve their season record to 14-15.
Colquitt’s resurgence began when relief pitcher Kamry Paulk entered the game, effectively shutting out the Lady Hornets after replacing starting pitcher Lilah Thompson. The Lady Packers capitalized on this momentum, scoring four runs in the fourth inning. This was followed by another run in the sixth, allowing them to take a 7-6 lead with two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Despite the setback, Cook High, ranked No. 5 in Class 2A, fought back, managing to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, which pushed the contest into extra innings. In the eighth, the Lady Packers pulled ahead decisively, scoring three runs, including a two-run single from Dee Tillman that put them up 10-7.
The Lady Hornets responded fiercely on their home turf, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth. However, Paulk secured the win by clinching the final out with a fly ball caught by center fielder Rheygan Harrell.
This victory also served as a measure of revenge for the Lady Packers, who had previously lost to Cook 3-1 on August 12 at Packer Park. The loss dropped Cook’s season record to 21-4.
Colquitt’s offensive performance was marked by a total of 11 hits, all of which were singles. Both Harrell and teammate Allie Eure contributed significantly, each recording three hits. Harrell’s hit in the fourth inning drove in the first run for Colquitt, while Eure’s crucial hit in the seventh set the stage for Tillman’s pivotal two-run single.
Paulk had an impressive outing in relief, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out nine batters. Although she allowed three runs, only one of those was earned, leading to her being credited with the win. Other contributors to the Lady Packers’ offensive effort included Arrington, Tillery, and Hallie Thompson, who also added hits during the game.
Colquitt County will return to their home field on October 9, 2025, to finish the regular season against Lee County, with the game scheduled for 17:30. Following this, they are set to participate in the state playoffs next week at Buford, aiming to build on their recent success and momentum.
