Jorge Masvidal Sends Support to Ben Askren After Lung Transplant

Ben Askren has received overwhelming support from the combat sports community following his successful double lung transplant, which took place after a prolonged battle with serious health issues. The former UFC star’s situation became critical over a month ago when a severe staph infection led to multiple complications. As news of his condition spread, fans and fellow fighters alike rallied around Askren, hoping for his recovery.

Fortunately, his wife, Amy Askren, announced that he had successfully undergone the transplant, providing a much-needed update to concerned supporters. Shortly after the surgery, Askren shared a poignant message from his hospital bed, revealing that he had “only died four times” during the ordeal. This statement underscored the severity of his condition and his resilient spirit.

Messages of Support Flood In

In the wake of Askren’s surgery, a wave of supportive messages has emerged, including a heartfelt video from his longtime rival, Jorge Masvidal. Known for their intense rivalry in the octagon, Masvidal took to social media to express his well-wishes. He addressed Askren directly, saying, “I know we were rivals in the ring, I just want to say God bless you. When I get back to America, if I could come and shake your hand, brother, and just share a prayer with you, it’d be amazing.”

Masvidal’s message highlighted the camaraderie that often exists among fighters, despite their competitive nature. He continued, “I know you’re gonna pull through this because you’re a f—— warrior, brother. God bless, your story is crazy inspirational.”

UFC President Dana White also praised Askren’s tenacity, calling him an “unbelievable warrior.” This sentiment was echoed by fellow fighters, including Daniel Cormier, who commented, “We love you buddy! You’re a fighter; it’s why you are fighting back! Thank God we still have you.”

Another former opponent, Michael Chandler, shared his admiration, saying, “Love you Ben… You have always been the toughest man I have ever been around in my entire life. Proud to call you my friend. I wouldn’t be where I am today without your belief in me.”

The Road Ahead for Askren

Despite the successful transplant, Askren faces a challenging recovery ahead. The combat sports community remains steadfast in their support, with many expressing hope for his swift rehabilitation. The outpouring of encouragement reflects not only the admiration for Askren’s achievements inside the ring but also the respect for his courage in the face of adversity.

As of now, Askren’s journey towards recovery continues, with fans and fighters alike eagerly awaiting further updates. The support he has received serves as a testament to the bonds formed within the sports world, transcending competition and rivalry.
