Cleveland South legend Jonathan Burge has stepped into a pivotal role as the head coach of the boys’ basketball team at Andrews Osborne Academy. With a rich history of coaching at the college and AAU levels, Burge is poised to lead his new team into the upcoming 2025-26 season, bringing with him high expectations and a commitment to excellence.
During a recent appearance at the NEO Sports Plant in Euclid, Ohio, Burge expressed his ambitious vision for the team, stating, “The expectation right now for us is high. But like I tell the guys, we haven’t done anything yet. All we are is a good team with our numbers.” His focus is clear: despite having a promising roster, the team must demonstrate their capabilities on the court.
The Phoenix participated in a competitive 16-team mega scrimmage, organized by Hawken coach Anthony Burns. Although the event showcased the team’s potential, Andrews Osborne Academy was missing three starters, including standout freshman Bob Da Silva, who stands at 6-foot-8. Burge has high hopes for Da Silva, calling him “the key factor” and the team’s “X factor,” emphasizing that their success will largely depend on his contributions.
Last season, the Phoenix finished with a record of 13-6 and will compete in Division VI this year. With a roster that includes several players standing over 6-foot-4, Burge’s team is being viewed as an early contender for the state title. In addition to Da Silva, the lineup features notable players such as Alfonso Fombona, Burge’s son Jackson Burge, senior shooter Aaron Schoffner, junior Lazar Tisma, and guard Alberto Tassani.
The enthusiasm surrounding the team is palpable, with Burge eager to instill a winning mentality. “We’ve got good numbers, but we’ve got to prove ourselves when the ball goes in there,” he reiterated after the scrimmage. His commitment to developing the players’ skills and teamwork will be crucial as the season approaches.
Fans can catch highlights from the mega scrimmage and hear insights from Burge, Jackson, and Fombona in a featured video segment. With Burge at the helm, Andrews Osborne Academy is set to make a significant impact in the world of high school basketball, and all eyes will be on the Phoenix as they aim for success in their division.
