Javoun Goldsby of Wiley University has been recognized as the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Runner of the Week for the period of September 29 to October 5. This accolade follows his impressive showing at the Belhaven Invitational held on Saturday, where he led the men’s cross country team.
Competing in an eight-kilometer race, Goldsby clocked in at 29:41, marking his fastest time of the season. The event included participants from both the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and HBCUAC institutions, with notable competitors including Dillard University and Tougaloo College. Goldsby, who is also the preseason HBCUAC Runner of the Year and the defending individual champion, demonstrated his prowess on the course by finishing strong against a competitive field.
Wiley Wildcats Continue to Shine
This award represents the seventh accolade received by the Wildcats this season, further establishing their strong presence in collegiate athletics. The team is set to compete again at the Old Glory Gallop, hosted by Dallas Baptist University, on Saturday. This upcoming meet will be crucial as it serves as their final preparation before the 2025 HBCUAC Cross Country Championship, scheduled for October 17.
Goldsby’s performance not only highlights his individual talent but also reflects the growing competitiveness of Wiley University’s cross country program. As the season progresses, the Wildcats will look to build on this momentum and continue their pursuit of excellence in the HBCUAC. The team and their supporters are optimistic about their chances at the upcoming championship, where they aim to showcase their hard work and dedication.
