Italy’s Jannik Sinner, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, showcased his elite skills on Saturday by defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev with a decisive score of 6-0, 6-1. This victory at the Rolex Paris Masters propels Sinner into his first final at the prestigious tournament.
Sinner’s performance was nothing short of dominant. He served eight aces and achieved an impressive 90% success rate on first serve points, winning 19 of 21. Additionally, Sinner converted 6 of 9 break points and secured 54 out of 80 points overall, amounting to a remarkable 68% win rate.
Fatigue Affects Zverev’s Performance
Zverev entered the match following a grueling victory over Daniil Medvedev, where he triumphed 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) late on Friday night. His fatigue was evident, as he struggled to find his rhythm against Sinner. After finally claiming his first game to start the second set, Zverev’s hopes for a comeback quickly diminished as Sinner won six consecutive games to close out the match.
“Playing against Sascha is always a special occasion, and today he was clearly not 100 percent,” Sinner noted. “He was struggling physically. He won an incredible match yesterday.”
Sinner’s victory sets the stage for a final clash against Felix Auger-Aliassime, currently ranked No. 10 in the ATP rankings. Auger-Aliassime secured his place in the final by defeating Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik with a score of 7-6 (3), 6-4, showcasing his own impressive performance with 12 aces and a total of 26 winners.
Looking Ahead to the Final
As Sinner prepares for the final, he acknowledges the challenge ahead. “He plays incredible tennis at the moment, he has improved a lot,” Sinner said of Auger-Aliassime. “I’m looking forward to it tomorrow; it’s a great occasion for both of us. I’m very happy for Felix; he is one of the nicest guys we have on Tour. It’s going to be a very difficult match.”
This final provides Sinner with a chance to narrow the gap to Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings, where he currently trails by just 100 points. The two players have faced each other four times, with their head-to-head record standing at 2-2. Notably, Sinner has secured victories in their last two encounters earlier this year at the US Open and in Cincinnati.
As anticipation builds for the final, Sinner’s journey in Paris has already marked a significant milestone in his career, establishing him as a formidable contender in the world of tennis.
