Fredericktown Blackcats Claim Thrilling Victory Over Doniphan

In a nail-biting finish, the Fredericktown Blackcats secured a dramatic 53-51 victory against the Doniphan Dons on November 27, 2025. The game, held in Doniphan, showcased a thrilling final minute where Fredericktown overcame a deficit to clinch the win.

With just five seconds remaining, guard Mason Cureton executed a decisive left-handed layup, culminating a pivotal 7-0 run for the Blackcats in the closing moments of the game. Prior to Cureton’s basket, Tucker Reutzel had tied the game with a fast break layup after stripping the ball from a Doniphan player.

Key Performances and Turning Points

Fredericktown, now with a record of 8-6, was led by both David Slinkard and Blake Terry-Breakfield, who each scored 14 points and contributed significantly to the team’s success. Slinkard also recorded five assists, while Terry-Breakfield showcased defensive prowess with four steals. In contrast, Doniphan’s Corey Hagood dominated the scoreboard with a game-high 26 points, helping his team briefly regain the lead at 51-46 with 1:12 left on the clock.

The game momentum shifted after Slinkard answered Hagood’s score with a three-pointer, setting the stage for the Blackcats’ final surge. Reutzel’s critical plays not only included his tying basket but also eight points, ten rebounds, and four assists throughout the match.

In a tense conclusion, the Dons inbounded the ball from their baseline with only 3.4 seconds on the clock but could not convert a long-range shot, sealing their fate. Fredericktown entered halftime with a 31-25 lead but faced a challenging third quarter where they were outscored 12-7. The Dons had taken a brief lead before Fredericktown rallied to secure the victory.

Other Notable Games in the Region

In other matchups on the same night, Kingston triumphed over Cystal City with a score of 63-57, led by Brady Thompson, who scored 22 points. Kingston established an early 23-12 lead and managed to fend off a late charge from Crystal City, which fell to 1-13 this season.

South Iron also had a successful outing, defeating North County 60-55. After holding North County scoreless for over six minutes at the start, South Iron maintained control, highlighted by Cason Chilton scoring 14 points. The Panthers improved to 12-3, while North County’s record fell to 4-7.

In a lopsided affair, Jefferson defeated West County 57-30, with Blayne Wilson leading all scorers with 21 points. Jefferson’s defense was effective, limiting West County to only six field goals in the first half.

Finally, Westwood Baptist overcame Bismarck with a score of 70-50, featuring a standout performance by Austin Dunlap, who scored 28 points.

These games highlight an exciting evening of high school basketball in the region, as teams continue to vie for positioning in the standings.
