Patrons at the Royal Oak National Coney Island in Michigan had a memorable experience on July 27, 2023, as they met former Detroit Tigers star and 1984 World Series champion, Lance Parrish. The event was part of National Coney Island’s Lucky Dog 60th Summer Giveaway Days, a series of celebrations marking the restaurant’s anniversary throughout July.
The meet and greet attracted a diverse crowd, with fans of all ages lining up to interact with Parrish. Steve Blow, a spokesperson for the restaurant, described the atmosphere as vibrant, with a great turnout. “Literally hundreds of fans showed up from all age groups and backgrounds, bringing a wonderful energy and excitement for the Tigers of 1984 and the Tigers of today,” Blow stated.
As Parrish engaged with his supporters, he signed hundreds of autographs and took numerous photographs, sharing stories from his illustrious career. The event was not only a chance for fans to celebrate their favorite player but also for National Coney Island to strengthen its community ties.
Children who attended were particularly excited to see Parrish accompanied by Paws, the beloved Tigers mascot. The presence of Paws added an extra layer of enjoyment for young fans, as they eagerly interacted with both the legend and the mascot.
In addition to meeting Parrish, fans received complimentary Detroit Tigers-themed merchandise, including bucket hats, foam fingers, and mini bats. This gesture was well-received, enhancing the overall experience for those who patiently waited in line.
“A great time was had by all,” Blow concluded, reflecting the event’s success in bringing together the community and celebrating baseball nostalgia. More events are planned throughout the year to continue the anniversary celebrations, making it an exciting time for both National Coney Island and Tigers fans alike.
