Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, expressed significant health concerns following his team’s loss to TCU on October 7, 2023. Sanders indicated he is experiencing severe pain in his leg and suspects the presence of additional blood clots. “Cat’s out of the bag, all right. I think I’ve got more blood clots,” he stated. “I’m hurting like crazy… I’m not getting blood to my leg. That’s why my leg is throbbing.”
During the game, which ended with a score of 35-21 in favor of TCU, the 58-year-old coach was seen sitting down at times, a rare sight for someone known for his high energy on the sidelines. Sanders confirmed he has a doctor’s appointment scheduled for Monday to address these troubling symptoms.
Sanders has faced numerous health challenges over the past few years. Earlier this summer, he underwent treatment for bladder cancer, from which his doctor reported he has now been cured. Notably, a section of Sanders’ intestine was reconstructed to serve as a bladder. His health issues have persisted, particularly following a series of surgeries related to blood clots.
In 2021, while coaching at Jackson State, Sanders had two toes amputated due to complications from blood clots. He also missed the Pac-12 media day in 2023 after undergoing procedures to remove a blood clot from his right leg and to straighten toes on his left foot.
Despite these challenges, Sanders remains committed to leading the Buffaloes, who currently have a record of 2-4 and 0-3 in the Big 12 Conference. His resilience continues to inspire both players and fans alike, as he navigates his health concerns while striving to turn the season around.
As Sanders prepares for his upcoming medical appointment, the college football community watches closely, hoping for positive news regarding his health and the team’s performance moving forward.
